The Dhing Express appeals to all big organisations and inviduals’ to come forward and help the people of Assam.
Hima Das is an Indian sprinter, who hails from Dhing Village of Assam’s Nagaon district. She is the first Indian track athlete to ever win a gold medal in a global event. She mainly participates in women’s 400 meters, 200 meters and 4X400 meters relay. Hima has won 3 international level gold medals.
This Dhing Express of Assam has become a part of the discussion as she has joined the effort to provide relief to the flood-affected victims of her state. The number of people affected by the Assam floods rose to 52 lakhs today, with as many as 1.5 lakhs being moved to relief centres amid a red alert issued by the government.
The star of Assam has also appealed to big organisations and individuals to contribute wholeheartedly to the people of the state. A tweet sent out from her official Twitter account read: “Flood situation in our state Assam is very critical, 30 out of 33 districts are currently affected. So, I would like to request big corporates and individuals to kindly come forward and help our state in this difficult situation.”
It has been learnt that the young star of Assam has contributed half of her salary for the Chief Minister relief fund.
In the meanwhile, the central government released Rs. 251.5 crore as the first installment of the State Disaster Response Fund to Assam.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also sent Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Minister of State for Jal Shakti, for a first-hand assessment of the situation.
