‘’ I have unshakable faith in my son and his capabilities” – Vandana Sufia Kotoch
The examination culture in India is so toxic that it bars anyone from celebrating anything less than a perfect 90 per cent. This unsaid, overwhelming pressure is quite visible in the way we give away all the glory and limelight to the toppers and 90 percentile-rs, while those who manage to pass these exams are hounded by their own marks.
“Super proud of my boy who scored a 60% in Class 10 board exams. Yes it is not a 90, but that doesn’t change how I feel.,” wrote the mother whose Facebook post praising his son goes viral.
In today’s world where marks define a child. Vandana Sufia Kotoch is too proud of her son Amar for securing 60% in his class 10 board exams. A resident of Delhi Vandana Katoch’s feeling towards his son doesn’t change just because Amar has scored 60% and not 90%.
She has seen her son struggling with certain subjects and almost giving up. But in the last one and a half month, Amar decides to give his best and finally make it through. For Amar , it was like fishes being asked to climb trees.
Vandana feels that all other students like Amar should chart their own course in the big wide ocean. She feels that parents need to change their mindsets and not compare the marks of their kids with other children.
‘’ I have unshakable faith in my son and his capabilities. There is more to a child than what shows up on the mark sheet. I want my child to explore his strengths and pursue a field of his interest.’’ sources said
Kudos and huge respect to Vandana! May parents like her continue to inspire and help every parent to take off the parental pressure from their children.
