The third edition of the Khelo India Youth Games will be held in Guwahati next year.

Taking to Twitter, Rjiju wrote, “I am happy to announce that the 3rd edition of the #KheloIndia Youth Games will be held at Guwahati from January 18-30, 2020. The Games will see a participation of more than 10,000 athletes and officials. It will be conducted in partnership with IOA, SGFI & Assam as host State.”

With the first two editions of the games held in Delhi and Pune in 2018 and 2019, respectively, Khelo India Youth Games is a national-level multidisciplinary grassroots game held for two categories — under-17 school students and under-21 college students. Every year, the best 1,000 kids are given an annual scholarship of Rs 5,00,000 for eight years to prepare themselves for international sporting events.

Meanwhile, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal gave support for the success of the sporting event by asking the director of Sports Authority of India (SAI), Assam Subhash Basumatary to make a complete assessment of all the sports venues including the available infrastructure and take up the refurbishing work at the earliest.

He also emphasised on Khelo India Youth Games as a brainchild of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which is organised to give opportunity to the budding players and identify the best talents in the sporting arena and added every effort should be made to provide state of the art sporting facilities to 9,000 players who will be converging in Guwahati from all across the country.

The inaugural edition was held in New Delhi, while Pune hosted the second one this year. Khelo India Youth Games will feature sports disciplines like archery, basketball, badminton, boxing, football, gymnastics, hockey, judo, kabaddi, Kho-Kho, shooting, swimming, table tennis, lawn tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, and wrestling among others.
