IIT student’s dead body found from railway tracks

A BTech student of IIT Kharagpur was found dead on the railway on Sunday night. The victim Chander Mohan Goswami (22), was a fourth year B.tech student of electrical and electronics communication engineering was originally from Uttarakhand, but his family now lives in Delhi. His father is a retired army man. He used to stay in Room No. 313 at IIT-Kgp’s Radhakrishnan Hall. Goswami’s body was found on the railway tracks, barely 500 metres outside the premiere tech school’s campus. 
Around 11.15pm on Sunday, a railway lineman informed Kharagpur GRP that a youth’s body was lying on the tracks. Police reached the spot and recovered the body, which was badly cut under the wheels of a train. The victim’s broken mobile and laptop were also recovered from near his body. After that Chander’s body was sent to the morgue of Kharagpur railway hospital. The autopsy conducted at Kharagpur sub-divisional hospital in front of his family. Already police has started an unnatural death case. Police sources said the autopsy report will indicate whether Goswami’s death was accidental or suicidal.
As per IIT-Kgp and police version the student had left the campus on Sunday evening to eat out with four or five other students, all inmates of Radhakrishnan Hall. The other students informed the IIT authorities that, while returning, Goswami told them he had left one of his belongings behind. As he went back to collect it, rest of the students came back to the campus.As the students who had dined out with Goswami tried to go out of the campus in search for him, but the security men stopped them at the gate. They informed the campus authorities that one of their friends had not returned to the campus.
IIT-Kgp registrar Bhrigunath Singh said, ‘A student of our campus was found dead on railway tracks. Cops are probing into his death. His family has been informed.’
