Naveen Patnaik takes oath as Odisha Chief Minister

In the Assembly polls, Patnaik’s Biju Janata Dal secured 112 Vidhan Sabha constituencies out of the total 146, with Patnaik winning both the seats he contested from.

Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal administered the oath of office on Naveen Patnaik Twenty ministers including 11 cabinet ministers and nine ministers of state were also administered the oath of office and secrecy. The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Exhibition Ground in Bhubaneswar. 

The 72-year-old Biju Janata Dal chief became one of the longest-serving chief ministers of the coastal state. The Biju Janata Dal, which secured 112 seat in the 147-member Odisha Assembly in the recently concluded election, held along with Lok Sabha polls, has been in power in the state since 2000.

– His team of ministers also administered the oath of the office.                                  

– Twenty ministers including 11 cabinet ministers and nine ministers of state were also administered the oath of office and secrecy 

– The cabinet ministers are Ranendra Pratap Swain, Bikram Keshari Arukh, Prafulla Kumar Mallick, Niranjan Pujari, Padmanabh Behera, Pratap Jena, Arun Kumar Sahoo, Sudam Marndi, Susant Singh, Naba Kishore Das and Tukuni Sahu.                      

– The ministers of state are Ashok Chandra Panda, Samir Ranjan Dash, Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi, Dibya Shankar Mishra, Premananda Nayak, Raghunandan Das, Padmini Dian, Tusharkanti Behera and Jagannath Saraka.                                         

– Apart from chief minister”s elder brother and businessman Prem Patnaik, sister and noted writer Gita Mehta, around 7,000 dignitaries including captains of industries attended the swearing-in ceremony.                                                                            

– A large number of BJD supporters and women grass root leaders attended the function.

Minutes later, Patnaik tweeted accepting the responsibility. “It’s a nostalgic and personal journey for me to reminiscence the past 19 years. Today while I take oath of office for the 5th term, I humbly accept the responsibility that comes with the faith my 4.5 crore family members have reposed on me, yet again,” he tweeted.

More than 10,000 people attended the swearing-in ceremony despite mercury touching 40 degree Celsius. Naveen Patnaik’s elder brother Prem Patnaik and sister Gita Mehta, a celebrated writer, attended the swearing-in ceremony.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Message                                          

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Patnaik on taking oath. In a tweet, he assured the Odisha CM of Centre’s ‘complete cooperation.

West Bengal Mamata Banerjee greets Odisha Chief Minister                        

She tweeted, “Congratulations @Naveen_Odisha Naveen Babu for taking oath as the Chief Minister of Odisha for the fifth time. We wish you well. Greetings to the people of Odisha.”
