The master of soulful music fondly addressed as Khayyam Sahaab is no more. The composer passed away at 92 leaving behind immortal compositions.

The Master composer Khyyam best known for his melodic pieces from blockbusters like Umrao Jaan and Kabhie Kabhie passed away on Monday morning 19th August 2019, in Mumbai at a private hospital following a cardiac arrest.
Spokesperson of Khayyam Trust Pritam Sharma said in a statement, “Veteran music composer Khayyam Saab is no more. He breathed his last at Sujoy Hospital, Juhu, Mumbai at 9:30 PM on 19/08/2019. He was admitted there since last few days for age related illness.”
Mohammed Zahur Khayyam Hashmi was born in Rahon of Jalandhar. He joined the Indian Army during World War II. But he had always dreamt of becoming a singer-actor in films. He debuted as a music director with Heer Ranjha in 1948. His first hit was Beewee in 1950. The noted music composer of Hindi films had most popular songs of the industry in his kitty. It included, “Dikhayii Diye Yun” from Bazaar, “Aaja Re” fromNoorie, “Tere Chehre Se” from Kabhi Kabhi, “In Aankhon Ki” from Umrao Jaan among many others. He first gained fame for composing music for the 1961 film Shola aur Shabnam.
He was honoured with the National Film Award for his work in ‘Umrao Jaan’. He also won a Filmfare Award for Umrao Jaan and Kabhi Kabhi. He was bestowed with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2007.
Tributes started pouring in soon after the news of Khayyam’s death came out. Several artists from the Indian film industry took to social media remembering the music maestro.
The maestro has left. But he has left behind a huge collection of his masterpieces for generations to cherish. The immortal music in which Khayyam will live forever.
