External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar chairs India-Nepal Joint Commission meeting in Kathmandu

Meet to focus on trade, commerce & economic partnership between the countries.

The External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will be arriving Kathmandu on 21 August for a two-day visit to Nepal.

He will co-chair the 5th Meeting of India-Nepal Joint Commission with his Nepalese counterpart Pradeep Kumar Gyawali this afternoon. 

During the visit, External Affairs Minister will pay courtesy calls to President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli. He is also expected to meet senior leaders from various political parties. 

Nepal-India Joint Commission was established in 1987 and since then meetings are being held alternately in Nepal and India.

The last meeting of the Commission was held in New Delhi in October 2016.

The Joint Commissioner’s will be discussing entire scope for Indo-Nepal relations, its bilateral ties.

The focus will be on economic partnership, trade and transit, connectivity, power, water resources and inundation.

Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs will be hosting a dinner in his honour.
