He crooned a hundred chart busters in his soulful voice in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali and Gujarati languages films and is noted for his clear and soothing voice; broad vocal range and noteplay. One of the most versatile singers of India, Krishnakumar Kunnath popularly known as “KK” celebrates his birthday today.

Rare facts about him

  • Unlike his favourite singer, Kishore kumar, he never had any formal training in music. KK’s musical journey began with listening to her mother’s Malayali songs.
  • His first job was of a salesman for 6 months.
  • He sang ‘Jab andhera hota hai’ from 1973 film Raja Rani.
  • In 1985, KK’s first jingle with Loy Mendonsa came up and now almost it counts to 3,500 jingles in 11 Indian languages.
  • His first Bollywood song was ‘Chhod aaye hum’ wherein he got to sing the first two lines.
  • He sang in the “Josh of India” song for the support of Indian Cricket team during 1999 World Cup.
  • His debut album Pal was released in April 1999.
