Security gears up in Assam prior final NRC list publication

Assam government has asserted that there is no reason to be worried as the state is all set to publish the final NRC on 31st August 2019

The additional Chief Secretary (Home and Political) Kumar Sanjay Krishna have said that adequate security measures have been taken across the state. He said that there is no security threat on the day of publication of NRC, but the security forces are effective to maintain peace.

He said that district administrations have met opposition leaders and prominent people in a confidence building measures. Krishna said that those people whose name do not appear in the final NRC would get opportunities to appeal in the Foreigners Tribunals.

Krishna said 200 Foreigners Tribunals will become functional from 1st September at Nagaon, Tezpur, Guwahati, Bongaigaon, Dhubri and Nalbari. He also said that legal aid cell will aid the needy people. Krishna said that the social media is being monitored by the police to prevent spreading of rumours.
