Maruti Suzuki plants to shut down for two days

Maruti has decided to shut down its passenger vehicle manufacturing operations on 7th and 9th September. Maruti reduced its output in August for the consecutive seventh month

Maruti Suzuki India’s biggest car maker  announced that  7th September and 9th September would be no production day for its Gurugram and Manesar  plants.

Maruti  reduced its output in August for the consecutive seventh month. It had cut its production by 33.99% in August.  The company produced a total of 1,11,370 units in August reducing its production by 33.99%   as against 1,68,725 units in August 2018.

Sales declined by one third at 1,06,413 units in August  compared to 1,58,189 units in August last year. Sales of mini cars comprising Alto and WagonR stood at 10,123 units as compared to 35,895 units in the same month last year.

Sales of compact segment like  Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire, fell by  23.9 per cent and Mid-sized sedan Ciaz sold 1,596 units.

But the  sales of utility vehicles, including Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and Ertiga, rose 3.1% at 18,522 units .

Exports in August were also down by 10.8% at 9,352 units as against 10,489 units in the corresponding month last year.

Earlier Maruti had downsized 3000 contractual workers.
