United Naga Council (UNC) has sent a letter to the Prime Minister informing a resolution of United Naga Council Presidential Council Meeting on September 5 at UNC office, Tahamzam, Senapati district Manipur that any peace agreement should acknowledge and accept the Naga National flag and the Naga Constitution without which the peace process may be endangered.

The letter addressed to the Prime Minister on September 9 stated that the Naga appreciates the official recognition of the unique history and situation of the Nagas and the subsequent signing of a historic Indo-Naga Framework Agreement on August 3, 2015 under the dynamic and decisive leadership of India and the Nagas.

It also stated that the rising India under the strong and dynamic leadership of the present Prime Minister Narendra Modi must be magnanimous enough to resolve the Indo-Naga political issue with respect and honour.

The letter also mentioned that the UNC Presidential Council meeting resolution on September 5, 2019 resolved that an honourable solution must be concluded based on the historic Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015.

For an honourable solution of the Indo- Naga political issue, the Naga national flag and the Naga Constitution must be acknowledged and be accepted in the peace agreement, it added.

Nagas of India celebrate their Independence Day on 14th August. Nagas claim nobody including the British never conquered them and so when they left India, Naga’s independence was restore on 14th August 1947

It further reminded the Government of India and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland that the failure of the hard earned peace process may once again lead to the breakdown of the cease fire that may renew the fierce confrontation that will be detrimental to peace and cause extensive destruction to lives and property of the innocent people.
