Peeved over the inaction of the government to book the culprits involved in the arson attack which left at least 10 houses razed to the ground, the Makhan Union has decided to block the lifeline national highway 02 indefinitely until the perpetrators are arrested and due compensation paid.

This was stated by Henry K. Heni, President, Makhan Union at the Makhan  village where the incident took place 17th September.

Even as the two  ‘warring’ villages of Maram and Makhan witnessed a mob built-up on Friday, no untoward incident has been reported in  the two aggrieved villages.

Following the arson attack, suspected to be linked to inter village land dispute, district administration  issued a red alert and deployed security forces and clamped the restrictive 144 CrPC were clamped around the two  villages.

Unknown miscreants had on 17 September, set on fire over 10 houses along national highway 2 located between Makhan Khuman and New Makhan in Senapati district of Manipur.

Reportedly, more than hundred miscreants suspected to be volunteers of Maran Khullen Circle Union armed with sophisticated arms destroyed and burnt the house. They threw petrol bombs into the houses. The houses were ransacked and raze to the ground by the miscreants flee from the scene after 10-20 minutes.

Denouncing the act, Makhan People Organisation had immediately blocked the national highway that runs along village, demanding the arrest of the miscreants within 24 hour. However the blockade was lifted following assurance by the state government to  nab the culprits within 72 hours in the presence of minister of Tribal Affairs and Hills and Fisheries Manipur N.Kayisii.

Manipur chief minister, N Biren Singh termed the incident as unfortunate and all out efforts are on to nab the arson attackers.
