Haryana is the only state in NCR which has started allotting stickers under the scheme.
The Environment Pollution (Prevention & Control) Authority, EPCA had decided to implement the colour-coded sticker scheme to identify vehicles on the basis of the fuel used. The Chairman of the EPCA Bhure Lal expressed his disappointment over the delay by Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan Governments in implementing the scheme.
He feels that Delhi has been lagging behind all neighbouring states in implementing the colour code. He wants to seek the intervention of the Supreme court in this matter.
The scheme involves two types of sticker to differentiate between vehicles that run on petrol, compressed natural gas (CNG) and diesel. This would help in restricting the use of vehicles on days of severe pollution. The vehicles that run on petrol and CNG will have light blue stickers, while the diesel vehicles will have orange stickers.
Haryana is the only state in NCR which has started allotting stickers under the scheme. Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan has floated the tenders but Delhi is yet to start its work.
