Hornbill festival is an annual tourism promotional event organised by the State Government of Nagaland. It is a cultural extravaganza to revive, protect and preserve the richness and uniqueness of the Naga heritage.
The first day saw a footfall of almost 45000 people. This year is the 20th edition of Hornbill festival.
Governor Ravi echoed and said a new dawn for Nagaland is breaking and urged the two million people of Nagaland to help build a new Nagaland free from fear of gun and corruption, a new Nagaland based on the foundation of transparency, accountability and rule of law. He also urged the people to strengthen the spirit of unity so palpable during the Hornbill Festival.
The Governor and the Chief Minister of Nagaland formally inaugurated the festival of festivals by sounding the traditional gong. Earlier, Aniashu Village Chief, Montei invoked the traditional blessing and celebration of Colors of Nagaland began thereafter with spectacular performances by different artists depicting the ethnicity of Naga tribes.
The Archives Branch of the Art & Culture Department is exhibiting historical records of the State such as maps, public and private papers, newspaper clippings and photos at Kisama near the World War Ⅱ museum.
Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd is the digital partner with IT, Tourism and IPR departments of the Government of Nagaland at the Hornbill Festival this year. Jio is providing data connectivity by installing free WiFi booths at different locations of the festival.
Jio has been working closely with the Nagaland Government for the last three years for promoting the cultural and ethnic fabric of the Hornbill Festival.
Chief Secretary, Nagaland, Temjen Toy inaugurated the Craftscape, near World War II museum, at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama on 1st December.
Craftscape seeks to highlight and create awareness on the fragile status of some of the vanishing craft traditions rapidly fading away for lack of patronage and facing threat from substitutes of cheaper alternatives in plastics and other man made derivatives.
The Hornbill Kids Carnival is being organised by Synergy Group Enterprise in collaboration with Tourism Department. Scheduled events at the kids carnival include Essay writing competition for group B&C on second day, Kids dance Fiesta and Painting, Drawing and Coloring on 3rd & 4th day, the Voice of Kids Carnival (solo) on 5th day, Teens Kpop singing competition and Baking & Chocolate making on 6th and 7th day respectively.
The Department of Industries & Commerce organised Exhibition cum sale of Local indigenous Products of Handloom and Handicraft at Bamboo Pavilion, Naga Heritage Village Kisama, Kohima .
This year’s Hornbill Festival has 111(one hundred and eleven) stalls allotted to genuine Handloom and Handicraft artisans for Exhibition cum sale of their Products.
