There were reports in few media platforms that certain groups of people from Arunachal Pradesh were killing King Cobra for meals as there are no food rations (RICE) left to eat due to the current situation of the Lockdown in Arunachal Pradesh. However, this is completely incorrect. This is being informed through a PIB release.

The matter pertains to violations of Wide life Laws and is not related to the scarcity of foodgrains in the area. Attempts by a section of media to twist and sensationalize the story is deplorable and, as such, condemnable.

According to the state civil supply department, sufficient food ration stocks including rice for three months are available in Arunachal Pradesh. Besides regular quota for the state, the Government of India allocated more than 12,000 MT of food grains under PMGKAY to Arunachal Pradesh. And more than 8000 MT of rice was under lifting and distribution across the state to provide sufficient food to people under PMGKAY. Besides this, the Government of India also allocated 1000 MT food grain under Open Market Sale Scheme.

According to the State Government, a buffer stock of 60 MT pulses has also been created which can be released in the market based on demand. Around 20,000 individuals have received a free ration in various districts of Arunachal Pradesh since the lockdown was announced last month.
