Late Abu Bakker Siddique who was a freedom fighter and after the independence of Bangladesh in 1971 he played a silent role in the development of education in his village Delpara in Narayangonj. Abu Bakker believed that education is the only way to develop Independent Bangladesh.
During 1970 Abu Bakker’s house was the base camp of Mukti Bahini. He sheltered 25 to 30 Mukti Bhainis who had devotion and courage to fight against the Pakistanis during the war but the Mukti Bahinis lacked food and supplies. Abu Bakker supplied chicken and vegetables which his wife cooked. Abu Bakker’s almirah was loaded with heavy guns and grandest weapons to retaliate the Pakistani force.
The Pakistani forces when came to know about the base camp at Abu Bakker’s house and his strategic plans the Pakistani forces with a huge force armed with heavy artillery and tanks tried to enter the base camp. But Abu Bakker’s strategically dug canal and the deep planting of trees and bushes made it impossible to enter the camp. The Pakistani forces never made the next attempt to enter the base camp knowing the strength of Mukti Bahini present there.
After the war, Abu Bakker saw famine and various other social problems but he chooses education as a medium to contribute to the nation. From the donated land of his mother to his uncle, he convinced them that an education institute is necessary. After getting permission he managed to build a tin shed college, which had very fewer students and it was difficult to pay fees of the teachers because most of the student’s fees were made half or completely free but Abu Bakker never gave up. He sold chickens, cows and even his land to pay fees of the teachers. Now the college stands out to be one of the best colleges in the district of Narayangonj, Bangladesh. It produced doctors, engineers, government employees and so on.
“I always wanted my husband to spend more time with our children just like anyone would expect from their spouse. But when I saw the blessings and prayers coming from honest souls, I never regretted the decision of being by his side,” his wife, Sultana Begum recalls.
The college recently was recognized as a university and Hajir Misir Ali University stands to be one of the best in the district of Narayangonj in Bangladesh.
The Hindu community members there addressed him as Guru for his eager enthusiasm and participation in organizing any Hindu festival in the area.
“My father has always been a role model for me. He taught me a very important lesson that money is nothing if you can help and earn respect but if you walk away from your morals and ethics you will be long gone.
