Demanding to address the immediate needs of people as a part of Nationwide Protest Week
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) and its mass fronts are in a week-long campaign based on the demands of the immediate needs of the people during this period of Covid-19 lockdown period.
As a part of the nationwide week-long campaign, which was started from September 17, a Sit-in- Protest was organised today, 19th September 2020 at Hiyanglam with a small gathering in accordance with the SOP of the Covid-19 pandemic. The sit-in protest was addressed by Kshetrimayum Santa, Secretary CPI(M) Manipur State Committee and Taibangjam Deben, state committee member of the party.
Addressing the sit-in protest Kshetrimayum Santa highlights the Issues such as the intensification of communal polarization; targeting of minorities; largescale attacks on democratic rights and civil liberties of our people; against the mounting brutal attacks on women and other marginalized sections, the loot of national assets through privatization and scrapping of labour laws. He also expressed that the present unwanted political development in Manipur which affects the body politic of the state is the manifestation of BJP led government and the ruling party.
The campaign was focused on the following main demands :(1) Immediate cash transfer of Rs. 7,500 per month for the next six months to all families outside the income tax bracket. (2) Immediate distribution of free foodgrains of 10 kg per individual per month for the next six months for all the needy.. (3) Expand MGNREGA to ensure at least 200 days of work a year with enhanced wages. Promulgate an Urban Employment Guarantee Act. Announce unemployment allowance to all the unemployed. (4) Safeguarding the Indian Constitution and its fundamental guarantees of liberty, equality and fraternity for all our citizens.
