The public is requested not to shelter under large trees and near the river banks to prevent unnecessary risk to life from lightning and landslide

The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department, in coordination with the Regional Metrological Centre, Guwahati issues weather updates for the coming days. Heavy to moderate rainfall activity is expected in the State over the following week.

The state of Nagaland registered rainfall deficiency of 26% during the monsoon season from 01st June to 30th September. The rainy season is going to continue till about 20th of October 2020. A weather system has formed in the Bay of Bengal. Likely to persist over the region for the next 4-5 days. No extreme weather activity expected. However moderate rain and thunderstorms with lightning are expected mostly during evening and night between 1st – 06th October 2020. Improvement of weather expected from 7th of October 2020 onward and light weather activity between 7th and 10th October 2020. During this period, thundershowers and lightning accompanied by heavy rains are expected in the districts of Kiphire, Kohima, Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Peren, Phek and Tuensang. Moderate and Light rain is expected in Dimapur district.

NSDMA request all the DDMAs and other line departments who are responsible to remain alert and to attend to any emergencies caused by natural calamities to save lives and properties during this period.

Through this press release, NSDMA, Home Department urges the public to be vigilant during this period from lighting and heavy rainfall in the region. The public is requested not to shelter under large trees and near the river banks to prevent unnecessary risk to life from lightning and landslide.
