Joint Secretary, MHA, intervenes
Mizoram has decided to pull its forces from Assam’s territory following the intervention of Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs (in-charge of North East) Satyendra Kumar Garg on Wednesday.
Mizoram relented and announced its decision to withdraw forces from Assam’s territory after the meeting with the Joint Secretary, MHA (North East), Garg at Silchar Circuit House on Wednesday evening. Announcing the decision, Home Secretary, Mizoram, Pi Lalbiaksangi said Mizoram would withdraw its forces following the meeting with Joint Secretary, MHA.
Garg said that the Union Government, Assam Government and Mizoram Government had fruitful discussions and resolved to settle the matter amicably across the negotiation table. Home Secretary, Assam, Gyanendra Dev Tripathi said that Mizoram had acceded to our request and decided to withdraw its forces from Assam’s territory.
Tripathi said both the sides held meetings to restore peace and normalcy in the disturbed areas and that efforts are on to start the movement of trucks carrying essential commodities stranded on Assam side of the border to Mizoram. Prior to this, Home Secretary level talks were held at Lailapur close to the interstate border to bring back peace and tranquillity and for plying of stranded trucks and vehicles on Assam side of the border following the flare up on Saturday night.
