Police have registered a case under NDPS ACT against the accused
Meghalaya-made foreign liquor was seized by Assam police near Churaibari at Assam-Tripura border which was loaded in an on-duty plated cooking gas lorry. Receiving inputs about such movement and on suspicion Mintu Shil, in-charge Churaibari Outpost stopped the lorry the moment it enters the watch post and started checking and found a huge number of foreign liquor cases containing OldMonk, Royal Stag, Sterling reserve etc in the lorry but no cooking gas. Police have seized 497 cases of foreign liquor from the detained lorry, which is said to have a market value of around 5 lacs rupees.
The lorry driver had no documents in his possession. Churaibari police in-charge Shil further said that when the lorry driver Ranjit Debnath was arrested after interrogation he said the liquor was collected from Barnihat and was to be delivered at Kanchanpur in Tripura. Police have registered a case under NDPS ACT against the accused. The driver along with the liquor will be handed over to the district court tomorrow, said Mintu Shil, in-charge of Churaibari police.
