The funeral service of Lt. Temjen Toy, IAS, was held on 29th January 2021 at the Chief Secretary’s Official Residence, Kohima.
The sudden demise of T. Temjen Toy, Chief Secretary Nagaland on Thursday has shocked everyone in the state and outside. The Nagaland Cabinet expressed shock at the sudden demise of T. Temjen Toy, Chief Secretary of the State on Thursday evening.
Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, in his eulogy described Toy as a humble, upright and dedicated leader, who excelled in all his assignments. He called Toy a true bureaucrat and one of the best officers, someone whom he had full trust and confidence in. Toy served the state government in various capacities and head various organisations with sincerity and dedication, Rio said. He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family on his behalf and on the behalf of the Government of Nagaland.
Additional Chief Secretary & Finance Commissioner, Sentiyanger Imchen, who spoke on behalf of the IAS Association, Nagaland described late Temjen Toy a “seasoned bureaucrat”, who was known for his administrative skill as evident from his leadership in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. He added that the void created by his sudden demise will be felt deeply in the governance of the State.
Eulogies were also given by the Ao Senden and Kohima Aor Telongjem.
On behalf of the family members, Toy’s father Er. I. Lanu Toy thanked the Government of Nagaland for organising such a grand reception in honour of his son on his last journey. He also thanked the state government, individuals and well-wishers for constant support and upholding him after he had been diagnosed with an illness.
Toy was suffering from liver ailment from mid-2020. He was treated in the US also but had not much of improvement.
Prominent personalities like I. Imkong, Meyionen, Dr.Kezevito Keditsu also spoke on the occasion.
The Guard of Honour was given by the Nagaland Police. The programme was chaired by the Chief Secretary, J. Alam.
Rev. T. W. Yamyap, State Chaplain invoked God’s blessing while the word of God and benediction was offered by Senior Pastor, Kohima Ao Baptist Arogo, Rev. Sentisashi. The pianist of the program was Khyochano TCK.
The funeral was attended by a host of dignitaries including Ministers, Advisors, MLAs, bureaucrats, senior government officials and well wishers.

A legendary officer of the Stale, Late Temjen Toy joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1989. During his illustrious career, he served in several important positions in the Government with great distinction. He was Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung during trying times and his exceptional handling of the delicate law and order situation during that period is still talked about.
While at the helm of the affairs in all the major departments of the State, he provided outstanding leadership and left an indelible mark in every Department he worked. He displayed splendid administrative acumen while serving as Commissioner Nagaland as well as the Principal Secretary to two Chief Ministers.
The Central IAS Association has expressed deep shock at the passing away of Chief Secretary Nagaland, Temjen Toy. The Association has conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the family of Toy. His passing away is a big loss to IAS as a service and to people of Nagaland, a message from the Association read.
Those who conveyed their condolences include Secretary Defence, Establishment Officer, DoPT and many senior and retired IAS officers.
