The Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), an autonomous Institute under the Department of Biotechnology, Govt of India, organised the Global Bio-India 2021 Road Show at its Upper Shillong Node Campus, in association with Bioresources Development Centre (BRDC), Govt of Meghalaya. This was held as a build up to the Global Bio-India 2021 to be held online between 1-3 March 2021.
Global Bio India 2021, which will be held online next week, is going to deliberate on the opportunities and key challenges in the areas of bio-manufacturing, capacity-building, regulation & policies creating global supply chains for achieving a growth-oriented road-map for the biotechnology sector in the country. Global Bio-India 2021 would showcase key biotechnological innovations, products, services, technologies from national and international companies, start-ups and research institutes, identify funding and collaboration opportunities for research and development, attracting major contract projects from international companies as well as major global venture funding into India and facilitate interactions of research institutions with the industry.
The Global Bio-India 2021 Road Show at IBSD Upper Shillong, brought together the scientists of IBSD and BRDC and the beneficiaries of the recently funded project on “Setting up of BioNEST Incubator to develop women bio entrepreneurship through orchid floriculture in Meghalaya”.
During the road show function chaired by Prof Pulok K Mukherjee, Director IBSD, who was accompanied by Dr AS Suting, OSD, BRDC and the scientists and staff of IBSD, BRDC and BSI, the women beneficiaries were provided information on the objectives and the deliverables of the project. This was followed by interactive discussions with the beneficiaries and the program ended with the distribution of orchid saplings.
This initiative was carried out to catalyse the boost of the
floriculture sector in the State which has suitable agro-climatic conditions
for the cultivation of high value, low volume orchids.
