30 nos of villagers and 30 students from HGC attended the said program
The Department of English, Haflong Government College, Haflong in collaboration with PHE Haflong carried out an Extension Activity on Rainwater harvesting and other issues relating to water treatment in rural areas of Dima Hasao on Thursday.
They visited a village called Kelelo about 15 Kms away from Haflong town to carry out the extension activity under Jal Sakti Abhigyan. 30 nos of villagers and 30 students from HGC attended the said program.
Prof. Renu Mahajan Gupta addressed the gathering and informed the villagers about the purpose of the visit. Resource person, District Coordinator and Lab Technicians from Jal Sakti Mission and Professors from the department of English spoke and demonstrated the different processes of Rainwater harvesting and treatment of water from common sources like river, stream and ponds.
The district coordinator from Jal Shakti Mission, Sushmita Hojai informed the villagers of Kelolo of the provisions available under the National Rural Drinking Water Program (NRDWP). This Scheme aims to provide safe and adequate water for drinking, cooking and other domestic needs to every rural person on a sustainable basis.
The Department of English acted as the coordinator between the PHE department and the villagers present. The meeting not only benefitted the people of Kelelo but was also an informative session for the Professors and students of the English department too. The program ended with a vote of thanks by HOD of English department Prof. Renu Mahajan Gupta.
