This is going to be an emerging enterprise of friendship and future collaboration between Manipur University Of Culture (MUC), Manipur, India and Keio University, Tokyo, Japan.
This student exchange initiative will foster new ties and construct new ways of surging a need for knowing and acknowledging our ‘cultural relativism’ with Japanese culture. During these 5 Days Students Exchange Programme, the Japanese students really liked and highly appreciated the experience of the 30 minutes live streaming documentary videos of ‘The Battle of Imphal-1944”. Constructing the memory of the Battle of Imphal experience through the prism of tortured voices of traumatized veterans; the memory of the original trauma in the trenches and the hills was redefined through layers of secondary trauma. This was supplanted by the horrors of the combat experiences as reiterated by some of the veterans which touched the Japanese emotionally. The various supports such as food supply, road guides, and sacrifices of lives given for their Armies during chaotic wartime by the indigenous people of a tiny state of Manipur located in the North-Eastern State of India was remarked with highly commendable by the young students from Japan.
The Indian students really liked all the lively presentations of their Japanese students ranging from culinary delights of Japan, varied types of Kimono, different oriental musical instruments, Japanese music, ethnic communities like Ainu people, basic characters of Hiragana and Katakana, Japanese Annual events, Edo period, Ninja, Naruto, Osechi Ryori and the visual trips to various cities of Japan. Among the myriad presentations, students were also thrilled by Japanese Folk Music called “Gen-Otoha” performed by Tsuguru Shamisen, Keio University, Tokyo, Japan.
The Manipur University Of Culture, Manipur, India is now foraging a new geography of affinity with Keio University at the micro-level and Japan at the macro-level.
