Land Revenue department of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council served a fresh eviction notice to the illegal settlers of the Lahorijan area of Bokajan subdivision, occupying the sixth scheduled land governed by Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council yesterday.

The locality is annexed to Dimapur district of Nagaland for commercial purposes; an additional eviction notice was also served by Joint Secretary of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council in charge of the land revenue department on September 29, where fifteen days time was permitted to check out of the occupied land.

The notice has been issued under Assam Land Revenue Act section 18(2)/ 18(3). The notice issued particularly to the residents of Dudu Colony has directed them to vacate their occupied areas within fifteen days from the day of receiving the notice, failing which the authority will take necessary steps to expel the illegal occupiers by force.

The notices were served by the Land Revenue officials of Diphu revenue circle escorted by officers of Khatkati and Bokajan police station. It is pertinent to mention here that the maximum occupied land of Lahorijan area either belongs to Lahorijan and Nirmal Kumar Tea Estate or the revenue land of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council. A portion of land situated at the threshold of the Nagaland border is in use of the Assam Special Reserve Force, consequently, this portion of land is relatively free from encroachment.

In absence of the opposite administration in the tea estate, large-scale encroachment of the estates’ land registered under agricultural license has taken place within a span of twenty years; most of the occupiers don’t have any authentic land document issued by the revenue department of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council.

The whole urbanized locality of Lahorijan is notorious for transgressions like drug peddling, bootlegging, vehicle smuggling, prostitution, arms running, oil pilferage, or recurrent theft of petroleum and other crimes like assemblage location of anti-social and radical elements.
