Andhra Pradesh will now have 26 districts

Governor of Andhra Pradesh Biswa Bhushan Harichandan announced the creation of 13 new districts In his speech at the Republic Day function at IGMC Stadium Complex at Vijayawada.

The new districts will come into existence from the Telugu New Year Ugadi on 13 April 2022. A notification was issued on Wednesday. Andhra Pradesh will now have 26 districts.

The gazette notification was issued after the state cabinet’s go ahead with the proposal. The government has sought suggestions and objections to the proposal within 30 days. The notification mentions that all objections and suggestions should be addressed to the collector within whose jurisdiction the area lies.

It was during the 2019 elections, that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had promised that all the 25 parliamentary constituencies in the state will be turned into a district.
