The Manipur State Secretariat calls upon all sections of the people, CPI(M) units and progressive and secular forces to organise protests against this assault on people’s livelihood
The Manipur State Secretariat of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:
The BJP was elected to form governments once again in all its incumbent states – UP, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur. With intensified communal polarisation and immense money power, muscle power, malpractices, with government machinery and management of SoO group militants, BJP could retain its state governments but UP with a reduced majority.
The people of Punjab voted for the Aam Admi Party rejecting the traditional two parties – Congress and Akali Dal. The AAP won a sweeping victory as the people of Punjab voted for a decisive change.
These results show the continuing dominance of right wing politics in the country and particularly in Manipur. The Manipur State Secretariat of CPI(M) called upon all the Left and Democratic forces to jointly redouble efforts to fight against the Hindutva Corporate regime, its policies, growing authoritarianism, and fascistic attacks on the opponents of the government.
Soon after the Assembly election results were declared, the BJP in Tripura unleashed vicious fascistic attacks against CPI(M) cadres and indiscriminately attacked many CPI(M) offices across the state. The Manipur State Secretariat of the CPI(M) strongly condemned this unleashing of politics of terror in the state. The BJP in the past has continuously indulged in such terror against CPI(M) but shall fail, once again, to intimidate the Party and its rank and file.
Following these election results, the BJP central government mounted further vicious attacks on the working people by reducing the Employment Provident Fund interest rate to 8.1 per cent from 8.5 per cent last year. This is cruel as it comes in the background of mounting hardships with growing job losses, galloping price rise etc.
The Manipur State Secretariat calls upon all sections of the people, CPI(M) units and progressive and secular forces to organise protests against this assault on people’s livelihood.
Ominously, the RSS in its 2022 annual report released soon after these assembly election results were declared alleged “growing religious fanaticism” in the country in the name of “Constitution and Religious Freedom” declaring that there are “elaborate plans by a particular community to enter the government machinery”. The RSS has called for “all efforts with organised strength” to “defeat this menace”. This is another insidious move to target the minority community.
The Manipur State Secretariat of CPI(M) called upon all secular democratic and progressive forces to come forward to uphold the Constitutional guarantees and the rule of law to prevent communal violence and maintaining social harmony, so vital for the unity and integrity of India as well as Manipur.
The press communication was released by Kshetrimayum Santa, Secretary, CPI(M) Manipur State Committee
