He reportedly donated his house in Salt Lake to Ramakrishna Mission of which he was a follower
Press Club, Kolkata, deeply mourns the sad and sudden demise of the Club’s former President and Senior Journalist, Shyamal Baran Roy (SBR), who breathed his last at his Salt Lake residence on 27 April 2022. He was 58 years of age and was staying alone after his mother’s death in February last year.
He studied at Don Bosco School, St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, and the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi. He worked in PTI for several years and took voluntary retirement some years back. He, then, was into Book Publishing and brought out some serious titles. He had a flair for writing and was very knowledgeable on various issues including religion and interfaith. He was a disciple of the Ramakrishna Math. He attended the conferment of the Sainthood ceremony of St. ( Mother) Teresa in Rome.
He was known for his sober nature and friendly behaviour. He was the President of Press Club, Kolkata in the year 2008-9. He was liked by his colleagues for his amiable and helpful nature.
Press Club, Kolkata, paid rich tribute to the Club’s departed President and sends its deep condolences to his bereaved friends, colleagues and acquaintances.
The Club flag was flown at half-mast on 28 April as a token of respect to its departed President.
