The Assam Speaker stated that “The rules of ‘Andolan’ cannot be allowed inside the House. The House has its own set of rules”
Assam MLA Akhil Gogoi was suspended from the Question Hour on Wednesday in the Assam Legislative Assembly as he tried to disrupt the House while attempting to ask unrelated supplementary questions.
Gogoi was taken out by the marshals from the House as he refused to leave while continuing to ask supplementary questions.
Akhil Gogoi was pursuing a reply from the Education Minister on the closure of some schools in the Sivasagar district. Speaker Biswajit Daimary did not allow questions raised by Gogoi.
The Assam Speaker stated that “The rules of ‘Andolan’ cannot be allowed inside the House. The House has its own set of rules.”
The opposition led by Congress members also staged a walkout during Question Hour over the reduction of time for raising the supplementary question.
Other opposition members, including All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and CPI-M, also joined in the walkout while alleging that the time for the MLAs to raise their issues was reduced.
“The BAC has decided to allot five minutes for supplementary questions for each question during Question Hour,” said Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pijush Hazarika.
