Seeking justice for thousands of Kukis killed from 1991 to 1997
On Wednesday the Kukis of Dima Hasao observed ‘Kuki Sahnit Nikho’ (‘Kuki Black Day’ in all the Kuki villages, along with the rest of the Kukis of the world, seeking justice for thousands of Kukis killed from 1991 to 1997. ‘Sahnit Nikho’ in Kuki is best translated as ‘Black Day’ in English. Hence, ‘Kuki Sahnit Nikho’ is often translated as ‘Kuki Black Day’ in English, though not the same.
The ‘Kuki Black Day’ is observed to mourn those Kuki people killed, and to pray for the departed soul, for the bereaved families and let them know that we are with them always, pray for displaced persons, pray that justice be delivered to victims and to Kukis as a whole; and pray that such heinous crime, of targeting ethnic cleansing, may not be committed by anybody in the world.
At Songpijang, a public gathering programme was held on the premises of GB L. Guite and was Conducted by Village Secretary Upa H. Haolai, the programme started at 7.00 am with an opening prayer from Pastor S.Changsan.
The Speech on the theme was delivered by Pastor H. Changsan Secretary of Songpijang Churches Fellowship. He also led condolence meetings and mass prayers.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the Kuki people were killed by the Naga Lim Guard of NSCN (IM) from 1991
to 1997 was more than one thousand all over Kuki inhabited areas of Assam, Manipur, and Nagaland. Those killed on 13th September 1993 were more than 100, most at Joupi village in Manipur.
