The director of Higher Education, Government of Assam, has issued a show cause notice to Dr. Siddhartha Sankar Nath, principal of Cachar College, Silchar, on several allegations against him. Dharma Kanta Mili, director, Higher Education stated ‘inviting a reference on the subject cited above, you are hereby asked to show cause within ten days from the date of receipt of this notice as to why disciplinary action shall not be taken against you as per provisions of Assam Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules 1964 for the irregularities committed by you as the Principal, Cachar College, Silchar’.
Some of the allegations include the conduction of an irregular meeting of the GB on May 30, 2022, with 29 members including two Grade – II non-sanctioned staff in total violation of Rule 3 of Assam Provincialised College Management Rules 2001, insubordination towards appointing authority, threatening of an assistant professor of the college, violation of Section 353 of the IPC by illegally preventing a government/public servant Dr. Ananda Chandra Ghosh assistant professor, Department of Political Science, Cachar College, from the discharge of his duties as a teacher, holding up the CAS promotions of the teachers for months after receiving their applications and not sending proposals for fixation of pay months after promotions are notified by the DHE, the appointment of several employees in non-sanctioned categories against non-existent posts and appointment of Kanchan Kumar Nath (reportedly the relative of the principal).
