Manipur Girl Selected For NCC Youth Exchange Program (YEP) To Vietnam

NCC Senior Under Officer Miranda Thongam, a graduate student of Imphal College of Manipur who has unfortunately lost both her parents and has been brought up by her two Elder Sisters and her celibate Aunt, who works day and night by working as a weaver at home was selected for the NCC Youth Exchange Program (YEP) to Vietnam from 19 Sept to 29 Sept 2022. She is the only Cadet selected from the entire North East region amongst 13 Cadets of India.

While talking over the phone with this correspondent, she said, “I am so grateful to NCC for providing me the opportunity to go abroad. NCC is the largest uniformed youth organisation in the country, which is totally dedicated to promoting national spirits and patriotism.”

“I am extremely grateful to NCC, especially Maj Gen Bhaskar Kalita, YSM, ADG NCC NER. When my selection came to his notice, he ordered his staff to provide all possible assistance to me to ensure that there are no administrative or technical hurdles, since this is a matter of immense pride to Manipur and NCC. Following the orders of Maj Gen Bhaskar Kalita, YSM ADG, one of his officers got in touch with the Govt authorities of Manipur, including CM,” Cadet Miranda Thongam said.

“Manipur government helped me in preparing my Passport, Visa, and all. This made my trip very easy. So I am extremely grateful to Hon’ble CM, Manipur for all his kind support,” Miranda Thongam further said.

She also expressed her gratitude to NCC, Imphal Group, officers, staff, and cadets of 65 Manipur Battalion NCC, Teachers of her school, neighbours, etc. When asked she further said her only aim is to become an Army officer.

Both her parents (L) Thongam Joybi Singh and (L) Sougaijam Rita Devi of Thangmeiband Hijam Leikai left three daughters she is the youngest one. Both of her elder sisters work in private companies and are living with her celibate Aunt (her father’s sister).

  2. Women of Manipur are 2nd to non and the hardships Miranda faced all along has made her a woman of steely mind and resilience and perseverance becomes her best friends. Kudos to her for representing India especially Manipur her home state and the NCC NE Region. I would like to appreciate Major General Kalita ADG NCC NER and the Government of Manipur for making her journey to Vietnam a smooth one. May her wish to become an Army officer comes true. Feel proud I had been part of the same alma mater like this brave lady.
