Bushan had won the same trophy defeating Vilasir Khate in the 1st Edition of the Tournament in 2020
The 2nd edition of the Heisnam Basantakumar Memorial Invitation Tennis Tournament 2022 organised by the Imphal District Tennis Association (1DTA) under the aegis of Manipur Tennis Association (MATA) concluded today at IDTA Complex, Lamphel, Imphal with Heikham Dingo Singh, Minister of Social Welfare, Fisheries, Labour & Employment, and Kongkham Robindro, Chairman (MANIDCO) gracing the closing -cum- prize distribution function as Chief Guest and President respectively.
Functional President Kongkham Robindro appreciated the Heisnam family for successfully organising such a prestigious tournament. He appealed to each and every one to extend moral and financial support to the sportspersons of the State.
Speaking during the prize distribution function the Chief Guest said that though Lawn Tennis is an expensive game, our youth can excel in this particular game. He stressed the need to focus on the promotion of the game of Lawn Tennis in the State.
The five-day long tournament, which carries a total prize money of Rs 2.37 lakh, is considered one of the highest in the local circuit. About 75 players from Assam, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Manipur, including a Manipuri player settled in South Africa competed in seven categories including men’s open singles and doubles, 35+ single and doubles, 45+ single and doubles, and 55+doubles.
Haobam Bushan of Manipur defeated Vilasir Khate of Nagaland in a tough fight in the men’s Open Single final and bagged a cash prize of Rs.30000/-(Rupees thirty thousand) and a running trophy. Bushan won the same trophy defeating Vilasir Khate in the 1st Edition of the Tournament in 2020.
In Men’s Open doubles final Manipur’s Bushan and Shanker beat Nagaland’s Vilasir Khate and Kennei. Ribashker beat Premjit and won the 35+ Men’s singles, and the pair of Aken and Ribashker defeated Bona and Premjit to win the 35+ Men’s double. In the final match of 45+ Men’s double, the pair of Tuleswar and Kangjamba defeated Dr.Th. Singh and Gurudarshan. In 45+ Men’s Single, Gurudarshan of Rajasthan emerged as champion defeating Manipur’s Th. Tuleswar in the final. In Men’s 55+ doubles final, a pair of Dilip and Leisemsana beat Ramkumar and Pradeep and emerged champions.
The closing function was also attended by Dr.S.Rajendra, Vice President, of Bharat Vikash Parishad, M.Rachandra, Vice President, of Manipur Olympic Association, Sinam Pritam, CEO of Eastern Motors and N. Shyamchand Head of Administration, UNACCO school as Guests of honour respectively.
