Diphu :   Tragedy struck Nahorlangso locality of Bokajan subdivision on last Tuesday morning when a herd of ravenous elephants ventured into human habitation and pulled down four shops near the Forest beat office during wee hour. The victim’s family members told the local media that the wild elephant came to that place around 3.00am looking for food. The herd particularly smashed the small eating joints and grocery for foodstaff.

Wayside eateries owned by Kamla Sharma, Sika Tokbipi, Sanjina Englengpi and Lina Engtipi were smashed by the starving elephants. In this incident no one received any injury as they ran away from the area just in time.Severe shortage of fodder inside the core area of forest due to massive deforestation are forcing herds of elephant to venture in human habitat located at the proximity of reserve forests of both West Karbi Anglong and Karbi Anglong district. Encroachment of forest land for agricultural purposes is another cause of man elephant conflict.
