World Theater Day was celebrated on Monday in Imphal at the Maharaja Chandrakirti Auditorium which was organised by Department of Art & Culture, Government of Manipur. Ratan Thiyam, SNA Fellow and Chairman of Chorus Repertory Theatre graced the occasion as Chief Guest along with Sabitri Heisnam, SNA Awardee as Guest of Honour and M.Joy Singh, Commissioner, Art and Culture, Government of Manipur as President of the function.

The Director, Art and Culture, L. Kishworjit Singh gave the welcome address.Loitongbam Dorendra, renowened theatre actor of Manipur gave a short talk on journey of Manipuri theatre and said that theatre is all about life and people who come to theatre should not come with a dirty feet, i.e they should be clean in their minds and actions.

Elaborating, he stated that Manipuri theatre got first prizes in National competition as early as 1954 in New Delhi and echoed that even before 1947 the colonial culture could not influence the Manipuri art form.
