The grand old party is already facing an existential crisis. The political graph of the Congress is on decline since 2014. In 2024 how far Congress will be able to face the stiff resistance from an upbeat Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be keenly observed by the political analysts.

The beleaguered Gandhi scion is trying everything to pose himself as a challenger to Narendra Modi who has weathered many storms in his decade old glittering political career.Northeast sends 25 Lok Sabha MPs. At a time when the land of seven sisters was considered to be the citadel of Congress-today the situation has changed completely.

Lotus is a blooming bud in Northeast and whether one likes it or not credit will have to be attributed to the political astuteness of Modi who has a very good political skill. Frankly speaking the downfall of Congress in Northeast began from Assam. The rebel Gandhi loyalist Ghulam Nabi Azad too has said that Congress lost the plot in Assam with the resignation of Himanta Biswa Sarma.

If one observes the political graph of BJP in Assam, even a political novice will be able to say that Himanta prepared the ground for the saffron brigade in the whole Northeast.

There is a saying–‘to err is human’. Unfortunately neither Congress nor its activist leader Rahul Gandhi could understand the real meaning of this thought provoking adage.Congress now needs to come with an ‘alternative’. It needs to infuse the minds of Indian voters with a new vision. The non-stop Modi bashing will not fetch it any votes.

BJP always gives due respect to its regional satraps. Be it Shivraj Singh Chouhan of Madhya Pradesh or Dr Raman Singh in Chhattisgarh. The Gandhis will have to become more pragmatic and allow their regional leaders to occupy the political centrestage.

The recent ‘cash for post’ scam has tarnished its image and at a time when the oldest political party is trying to revive its glory, it needs to go back to the drawing board and take note of the basics. Else days of uncertainty are awaiting for Congress. Must remember it is fighting against a well-oiled election machinery of BJP who only loves to taste ‘victory’ at any cost.
