Veteran Manipuri actor Kangbam Tomba walks on red carpet in Cannes

Imphal: Manipuri actor Kangbam Tomba walked the Cannes red carpet representing Indian actors with union minister L. Murugan and Oscar winning Indian documentary filmmaker Guneet Monga.

K Tomba Singh is the male protagonist of Ishanou, a film by Aribam Syam Sharma, made in 1990 and it is has been put in category of classics section of Cannes film fiesta in 2023.

After undergoing painstaking restoration at  L’Immagine Ritrovata, Italy as a collaboration of Film Heritage Foundation, Mumbai and  Manipur State Film Development Society, Ishanou has earned the status of a classic film and it is the only Indian film at the classics section this year. 

“ It is definitely a proud moment for the Manipuri film industry. We are also contributing to the glorious legacy of Indian Cinema at the world Stage,” Singh said.

Mention will also have to be made about Shivendra Singh Dungarpur and his team of committed persons who too played a crucial part behind the success of Ishanou.
