Three individuals, including a former Kuki MLA have been apprehended
Imphal : Information came in from Imphal-East stating that three miscreants with sophisticated weapons at Checkon Tribal market abused and shouted at some women vegetable vendors at gunpoint.
According to reports coming these miscreants were ordering all shops to close, and no one to sell anything. While the vegetable vendors got angry and womenfolk answered them back and in no time three of the miscreants were caught by the angry localities comprising of Meitei, Muslim, and Nepali people gheraoed the area.
Three individuals, including a former Kuki MLA have been apprehended. T. Thangzalan Haokip, former MLA of henglep constituency along with Johnlalkhopao Gangte and Vicky Mangoulam Singson are taken into custody along with arms.
In retaliation few houses were again burnt in Imphal . Some locals stated,” Why are they acting smart by loitering openly? Those women were risking their lives and selling vegetables for their people only! “
“Enough of such suppression, no one is there to guard us” expressed by a 78 year old woman via telephonic call with our reporters based in Imphal. On Sunday evening some Kuki militants started firing at around 5:30pm which went for half an hour, she states.
One NB Singh aged 49 of Kadangband part 1 got injured on his buttock when the kuki militants fired down the village.
According to sources Kadangband being one of the remotest Meitei Villages located at the hill valley junction. Most of the Meitei and Kuki households are separated only by 20-30 feet at Kadangband Lamkhai. But now it’s been seen that Kadangband Lamkhai being occupied by Kuki Bunkers.
Many appeal has been made by the villagers to the 22nd Assam Rifles stationed near this area to remove those Kuki bunkers but nothing has been done so far.
Now Kuki militants armed in sophisticated weapons have occupied Kadangband Lamkhai area.Due to this it has become utmost need for the Meitei’s to guard their villages. Some have very old country made licensed guns while others use knives and swords.
Sources added that the village youths have shared their pain and also appealed to send more security at Phayeng, Kangchup, Kadangband, Senjam Chirang, Koutruk and hill ranges going towards Kanglatombi side as daily issues are being created at the villages next to the hill range by the kuki militants. One old man expressed,” the militants are openly walking day and night among us. Why can’t the Government catch them?”
At Moirang Thanjing Sindam Sang Shelter some of the survivors has shown their eagerness to have a gun, to safeguard themselves. 35 year old Sanathoi expressed, how desperately the victims. of these incidents specially women have shown interest to have a gun.
She said, ” Security has been sent but they have not guarded us, give me a gun, I could fire at least two or three. Police and security will not protect us. We have lost all trust. It’s the locality who has helped us. Government hasn’t supported not helped us. We want justice!”
Another women was seen with her new born baby girl, born just one day ahead of the incident.
Pishani (name changed ) 47 old woman said,” It’s like a dream, one day we are here after some days we will be at other shelter homes? Centre always waste time in meetings but when the time comes to face the militants it’s our men who goes out to fight.
Some are coming in with big banners as if some kind future vote campaigning? We lost our homes! It got burnt! We are not refugee! This is our land! Send off those illegal migrants back to their place! Some of my old kuki classmates rang up to inform us to run. They wanted to save us. They are also scared of those Kuki Militants!
