Haflong: The second Dima Hasao inter- school taekwondo championship was held at district library auditorium on Saturday with great enthusiasm.
The programme was organized by Dima Hasao Taekwondo Association in association with Mishi Taekwondo.
Over hundred students from several schools of Haflong participated in the championship. It was for the first time where digital system was used i.e Point Scoring System (PSS) for fair game play which is also used for video reply for fair means of play. There were three categories i.e Sub Junior, Cadet and Junior each having their own ‘Kyorugi’ and ‘Poomsae’.
Prizes were later handed over for Sub-junior level best fighter- Raghav Rai, best Poomsae- Anshuman Joishi: Cadet best fighter- Jeffrey Sitlhou, best Poomsae- Aprajeet Paul: Junior best Poomsae- Benla Kemprai, best Kyorugi- Nathan Darnei.
The organising president Anuj Kumar Hagjer said that the best players will be selected for upcoming state level tournament.
It is worth to be mention that taekwondo sports was introduced in Dima Hasao only in 2020 and the sport have gained popularity among children and youth throughout the district.
Earlier, three taekwondo players from Dima Hasao bagged four gold medals, one silver medal, and a bronze medal at International Taekwondo Championship held in Goa in June last bringing laurels to the entire Assam state and the district as well.
