Imphal: People’s Alliance for Peace and Progress, Manipur (PAPPM) has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court mentioning the ongoing illegal narco trade that is going on in Manipur which is one of the reasons behind the sudden flare-up of ethnic clash in the state.

The president of PAPPM Mayanglambam Bobby Meeitei in his writ petition has also mentioned the issue of displaced people from their own homeland due to the ongoing ethnic clash.

“The illegal Kuki immigrants have been entering Manipur through Myanmar for the past many years. The Suspension of Operation (SoO) with the Kuki militant outfits has come as a shot in the arm of these proscribed groups. They are utilising this breathing pace by strengthening their organisation. They are recruiting more volunteers to their group and are giving them training in their designated camps,” read the petition.

Meetei alleged that the Kuki militants are associated with poppy cultivation, drug and arms trade. “The national security is at stake. The drug lords are using the Golden Triangle for their illegal business. This is adding to the woes of Manipur. In fact this should be considered as a threat to our national security,” the petitioner observed.
