The villagers appreciated the heroic act of the Sugnu police and state commando for protecting the villagers during the communal clash
Imphal: Heated exchange of arguments has been reported from Sugnu as sources said that Sugnu police vehemently opposed the blocking of the main entrance gate of the police station by 37 Assam Rifles.
This incident happened on Friday morning following the entry of a vehicle belonging to 37 Assam Rifles. The Assam Rifles have been accused of overpowering the state police force at Sugnu.
This annoyed the cops who opposed this move of 37 Assam Rifles tooth and nail. The verbal duel reached such a stage when both the police and 37 Assam Rifles were pointing gun at each other.
However, neither side pulled the trigger. The officer in-charge of Sugnu police station threatened the commanding officer of 37 Assam Rifles with an FIR. This threat seemed to have worked in favour of Sugnu police and accordingly the jawans of 37 Assam Rifles left the spot.
Meanwhile, when the confrontation was taking place between the two sides, a gunfight was reported from nearby villages, including Tangjeng, Napet and Pombikhok between state forces and Kuki militants.
Villagers of the area questioned why the 37 Assam Rifles were blocking the main entrance of Sugnu police when there was a gunfight at nearby villages. The villagers appreciated the heroic act of the Sugnu police and state commando for protecting the villagers during the communal clash.
