Haflong : With the theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’, Environment and Forest Department, Dima Hasao in collaboration with the District Administration, Dima Hasao District organized the observance of “World Environment Day” at Yoga centre, Haflong on Monday.
DHAC CEM Debolal Gorlosa who attended the programme as the chief guest at the centrally organised programme held at Haflong Yoga Centre was accompanied by the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council Chairperson Ranu Langthasa and DHAC Executive Members Samuel Changsan and Nojit Kemprai.
As the part of the event CEM Debolal Gorlosa also participated at the Green Ride bicycle and rode around the Haflong town along with EMs Biswajit Daulagupu and Nojit Kemprai along with the youth. While delivering speech, CEM urged all the people present to be be environmental concious and that they should be messagers to those ignorant who do not know about the ill effects of cutting the forests and using environmentally harmful substances.
He also said that he will never compromise with anything at the cost of the future of this district and strenly deal with wood smugglers. It is to be noted that after Debolal Gorlosa became the CEM of Dima Hasao, one of his first steps was stutting down of all the saw mills that was applauded widely by the people.
Plantation programme was also held where all the schools had the plantation of saplings at their own school premises and officials at their office complex. This was done in the entire district of Dima Hasao with the initiative of Dima Hasao Forest Dept. Others who spoke on the occassion were Chairperson Ranu Langthasa who threw light about the climatic changes which is adversely affecting the lives of the people in this region also. She said that this is a high alert that nature and environment should be taken care of else there will only be remorse in future and nothing left.
CCF M Tungnung also briefly spoke about the importance of this day and welcome all the people present. Others present were ADCs Dr. Surjya Kamal Borah, James Aind, Deepmala Goala, Asst.Commissioner Arnika Lekhetpi, DFOs, DIPRO and officials from different departments, NGOs, media persons and general public
