Silchar: In a bid to make Cachar a cleaner district the district administration has initiated a drive to clean the municipal areas of Silchar on tuesday. Cachar DC Rohan Kumar Jha along with Superintendent of police, Numal Mahatta, additional Superintendent of police, Subrata Sen, District development commissioner Rajib Roy kickstarted the mega cleanliness drive at capital point of Silchar town.
DC Rohan Kumar Jha also took part in the drive and overviewed the cleanliness drive that was taken up at the various places of the town.While expressing his views DC Rohan Kumar Jha said “Most of the drains in Silchar and it’s adjoining areas have been chocked due to dumping of garbages “.
“We will take in hand the task of cleaning these drains with the help of Silchar municipal board so that during the monsoon season the town is not inundated by the artificial flood” Jha said. He however reiterated that until and unless people become conscious and stop throwing garbage in the drain ,the cleanliness drive will be futile.
Making an appeal to the street vendors,DC Rohan Kumar Jha said ‘ local markets set up near drains are dumping their garbage in the drain ,I would like to appeal to the people to stop dumping garbage in the drain. Jha urged people to handover the garbage to municipal garbage disposal vehicles for proper disposal.
Sharing his reaction, Cachar SP Numal Mahatta said, “Litters endangers our environment and our economy, it pollutes our neighbourhood and destroys our city’s natural beauty”. He also appealed to the people to make the city clean by not littering on the streets and follow proper garbage disposal system.
The cleanliness drive was also attended by the additional deputy commissioner, Tridib Kumar Konwar ,Antara Sen, Nampui , assistant commissioner, Jonali Debi, circle officer Sonai ,Maria Tanim circle officer (A) Aditi Nunisa ,Ruthi Selate ,BDO Jatrakk Karmakar and other officials of line department.
Later ,a theme song was also unveiled by DC Rohan Kumar in presence of Superintendent of police, Numal Mahatta, Additional superintendent of police, Subrata Sen. It is worthy to mention that the theme song has written by Biswaraj Bhattacharjee and the song was recorded by a popular Bangla band of Barak valley ‘Dolchut’.
