Diphu: Monsoon has finally arrived in Karbi Anglong with a mixture of boon and blight, sudden downpours have irrigated the parched paddy fields in extended areas of Diphu and Bokajan subdivision while five shops were smashed by an uprooted old gigantic banyan tree in Hidipi township near the cooperative office last night; around fifty kilometers from Diphu.
The victim shopkeepers have to say that due to torrential rainfall, the roots of the banyan deracinated from the ground and fell on the road demolishing the business establishments. Due to the impact shops of Kanto Ingti and Krishna Bhujel and another three persons were completely compressed, loss of goods and properties have been estimated to be around Rs.10 Lakhs rupees.
A large area of Bokajan, was on the brink of drought like situation due to scanty rainfall in past years, resulting in a holdup in agricultural activities even sources of water for domestic use also dried out. A large number of families dependent on agriculture settled in Dillai, Hidipi, Kuligaon, Lakhijan, Khatkhati, Bokajan, Hanjanglangso, Balipathar, Delaojan, Japralangso, Deopani who failed to cultivate land since last two years due to the shortage of water (in spite of toll claims of Irrigation department) and were facing a crisis of and drinking have thanked for the providential clemency.
