Nine persons were killed at Khamenlok, in Manipur’s Imphal East district bordering Kangkokpi district. 11 persons also sustained bullet injuries and were rushed for a medical emergency. The attack happened late at around 10 pm Tuesday night when almost twenty five village civil volunteers were attacked at Agijang village under Khundrakpam assembly constituency under Imphal East.

They were attacked from three sides by suspected militants. It is suspected that RPG was also used. Those killed are from the Meitei community.

The government has imposed a curfew from 9 AM after the incident.

Unconfirmed report states that the casualties are expected to rise.
