Agartala: In Tripura the annual traditional ‘Kharchi Puja’ and Mela will start from June 26. The festivity continues for a week at the ‘Chaturdash Debta Mandir’ compound.

‘Kharchi Puja’ has a long tradition as wherever the erstwhile Tripura kings had their palaces like Udaipur (formerly Rangamati), Amarpur, Rajdharcherrra (Ratacherra in Kailasahar) and Puratan Agartala from the year 1760 there have been temples of ‘Chatirdash Debta’ close to the royal palace.

It was only after the princely Tripura’s capital had been shifted to present Agartata town in the year 1838 that the ‘Chaturdash Debta’ temple was not shifted .
