Hundreds of acres of land where cash crops and horticultural plants were destroyed by the demolition squad
Diphu : As informed earlier, the Forest department in coalition with Land and Revenue department of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council carried out a massive eviction drive at Lankaijan and Klurudung area bordering Lanka and Lumding part of Hojai and part of Nagaon district today.
Around one thousand and five hundred bighas of land has been cleared from the encroachers, however maximum illegal settlers vacated their places and the administration removed the debris of the abandoned houses without any resistance.
“We are thankful to the Chief Minister of Assam for showing us the way for preserving our landed area and for extending all help and cooperation in expelling the encroachers. Litigations are pending in Court in matter of eviction in Khan Basti and Klurudung area but we are hopeful that the verdict will go in our favor as the encroachers are contesting with forged documents, after clearing all border areas enduring schemes will be implanted in those areas so that no further encroachment takes place” Tuliram Ronghang Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council said to the local media after the eviction.
Due to an uncertainty regarding the actual demarcation of the border between Hojai subdivision and Karbi Anglong district eviction could not continue beyond Ambari village.
Number of government sponsored schemes including housing and water area projects have been executed by the Hojai administration in that locality. Officials of the Directorate of Land Record have assured that the area will be surveyed soon for ascertaining claims and counterclaims.

An official of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council has informed that the eviction was carried out under Diphu and Phuloni revenue circle, around three (two hundred and forty seven houses official figure) hundred illegal structures were demolished by mechanized forces backed by Assam Police and Central Reserves Police Force.
Demolition of the unlawful constructions started from wee hours, District administration deployed executive magistrates and other officials for this purpose. The council official has also informed that more such expulsion drives will be carried out in Assam Nagaland border and some areas within Diphu town.
