Militants opened an attack at the Meitei settlement of Sabungkhok Maning Leikai under Yaingangpokpi Police Station in Imphal East district on July 7.

They started Firing bullets at around 10 pm which led to panic among people in the area as they fired several rounds of bullets from different directions.

No one was injured during the attack but a woman identified as Oinam Ibemcha  58 years old, wife of Oinam Biren of Gwaltabi broke her left arm by falling down while trying to take safe shelter. Her family has been staying at Sabungkhok after the militants set their house on fire recently.

On Friday’s attack, many of the villagers have gone to other places. The gun firing decreased when Manipur Police Commandos rushed into the area. The local people have appealed to the Government and other authorities to arrange adequate State Security Forces in the area to prevent other attacks in the future.
