Meeting held over Assam-Meghalaya border issue

Minister Chandra Mohan Patwari said that measures will be taken after collecting people’s opinions and submitting the report to the two district commissioners

SILCHAR : A high-level meeting between officials of Assam and Meghalaya was held in Meghalaya’s Umkiang on Saturday over the Assam-Meghalaya border issue.

Minister for Forest & Environment Chandramohan Patwari, who is on a two-day visit to Cachar attended the meeting in the presence of Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dar. The meeting was held at the auditorium hall of Holy Cross H.S School at Umkiang in Meghalaya.

Deputy commissioner of Cachar, Rohan Kumar Jha, and East Jaintia Hills deputy commissioner Abhilash Barnawal, Police Superintendents of the two districts, and officials of various departments were also present. Representatives of various organisations of Meghalaya and local people were also present.

The meeting was held in a congenial atmosphere on the border issue between the Cachar and East Jaintia Hills districts of the two states.

Sharing the reaction, the Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya and the Forest Minister of Assam said both the governments of Assam and Meghalaya are very much keen to resolve the border issue between the two districts of Assam and Meghalaya and the matter was discussed in detail at the meeting. The minister said that deputy commissioners of the two districts have been instructed to collect detailed reports.

Earlier, Sadar SDO of  Khliehriat, Abhinav Kumar Singh, gave the welcome address and a PowerPoint presentation was made by both Cachar DC Rohan Kumar Jha and East Jayantia Hills DC, Abhilash Barnawal.

MLA Kaushik Rai, Cachar Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta, District development commissioner, Cachar, Rajib Roy, Forest Department officials, and others were present in the meeting among others.
