Imphal : Manipur witnessed widespread protest as citizens voiced their discontent over Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga’s participation in a solidarity march held in Mizoram. Protestors, gathered under the aegis of “My Manipur,” expressed strong condemnation of Zoramthanga’s alleged intervention in Manipur’s internal affairs.
The incident took a dramatic turnaround at 2:30 pm when protestors attempted to burn an effigy of Zoramthanga in retaliation to his comments about Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh but Manipur Police timely intervened. The remarks, deemed derogatory and unfavorable, triggered outrage among the demonstrators.
Mangangleima Salainganbi, the spokesperson of “My Manipur,” conveyed their displeasure to the media, calling Zoramthanga’s statements regarding the ongoing crisis and Chief Minister N Biren Singh as highly condemnable. She emphasized that Manipur has its own government, capable of managing the state’s affairs, and urged against resorting to violence.
“Zoramthanga’s derogatory remarks against our Chief Minister N Biren Singh, whom we consider as people’s CM is very unfortunate. Zoramthanga should stop using insulting comments on the Manipur crisis that has erupted since May 3. We have our own government and should not stop meddling with the internal matters of Manipur. He should not cross his line,” stated Salainganbi, urging respect for Manipur’s sovereignty.
Salainganbi also hailed Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s dedication and popularity among the people for tirelessly working towards their welfare and safety.
The situation highlights the escalating tensions between the two neighboring states and underlines the need for mutual respect for each other’s territorial integrity and autonomy. Authorities are closely monitoring developments, seeking to defuse tensions and find common ground to restore harmony in the region.
